WINNIPEG, Manitoba (September 4) Over 115 teams will be paddling for a good cause during the FMG Dragon Boat Festival, a partnership between CancerCare Manitoba Foundation and The Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba, on Sept 7-9. The event will be held at the Lake Shirley Water Ski Park at 365 Murdock Road.
All fund-raising dollars contributed by the teams will benefit pediatric cancer programs, including clinical trials. Clinical trials are crucially important in advancing the fight against cancer. Trials have led to the discovery of drugs that are less toxic, and to the development of less-invasive surgeries. They have drastically improved survival rates for children diagnosed with cancer.
“All the proceeds from the FMG Dragon Boat Festival will stay right here inManitobato support pediatric trials. By investing in clinical research and improving access to high-quality care, we can give every child the greatest chance of survival,” saysAnnitta Stenning, Executive Director of CancerCare Manitoba Foundation. “We are so proud and grateful that donations help fund HALF of all pediatric clinical trials at CancerCareManitoba.”
The public is invited to attend the event to cheer on their favourite teams during the races. The festival will feature live entertainment, delicious food, kids’ activities, and vendors throughout the weekend.
“Thank you to all the paddlers, volunteers, families and staff,” saysLawrence Prout, President & CEO of the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba. “Having so many people focused on having fun and raising money gets us one step closer to eliminating pediatric cancer one day”.
