Niibin bids a fond farewell to Winnipeg by donating 2,500 plush toys to Children’s Hospital

With the final days of summer upon us, Niibin the 2017 Canada Summer Games mascot dropped by the Children’s Hospital of Winnipeg today to make a special delivery. Accompanied by Jeff Hnatiuk, the Games’ President and CEO and Lawrence Prout, President and CEO of the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba, Niibin donated 2,500 plush toys to the Hospital on behalf of the 2017 Canada Summer Games Host Society and Co-Hosts.

“The 2017 Canada Summer Games Host Society and Co-hosts are pleased to donate Niibin plush toys to the girls and boys receiving treatment at the Children’s Hospital of Winnipeg,” said Jeff Hnatiuk, President and CEO of the 2017 Canada Summer Games Host Society. “We wish them all the best and hope the toys will bring them comfort during their hospital stay.”

“This donation will brighten so many of our sick and injured kids days”, states Lawrence Prout, President & CEO, Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba. “Thank you to the Canada Summer Games for sharing their light with us.”

Today’s visit marked Niibin’s final pubic appearance. Since 2016, the mascot has made over 225 appearances at community events and festivals all over Manitoba and Kenora and visited 22 schools. A special ambassador for the host region when Winnipeg, Gimli, and Kenora welcomed the country for the 2017 Canada Summer Games in July and August 2017, Niibin won the hearts of athletes, Manitobans and visitors of all ages.

About Niibin, the 2017 Canada Summer Games mascot

Niibin is a magical creature created by the summer heat, who lives in Manitoba’s Spirit Sands desert. Niibin draws his strength from the sun, giving him energy to explore forests, lakes and fields.

Summer is Niibin’s favourite season. He finds fun in the simplest activities, like playing hide-and-seek with lizards, peek-a-boo with prairie dogs, and sneaking up on white tailed deer. He loves to dance, play sports, and head off on adventures.
