You Are ‘Caring For Kids’ All Over Manitoba
For the 11th straight year the Children’s Hospital Foundation is joining forces with the Brandon Regional Health Centre (BRHC) for the Caring For Kids Radiothon, presented by Planet Kia.
On Thursday, April 20th, from 6am-6pm listeners of 101 The Farm and 96.1 BOB FM will come together to make a difference in the lives of sick kids in Brandon and the surrounding areas.
“This is a true collaborative partnership with two hospital foundations working side-by-side to raise money to purchase pediatric medical equipment to help sick children,” says Gary Rozak, Program Director, Children’s Hospital Foundation. “There are more than 800 Westman families who go first to the BRHC and then come to the Children’s Hospital in Winnipeg. Both hospitals have been working together for years and the community is very appreciative of that relationship. Partnerships and working relationships are a must to ensure a strong bond of knowledge and skill is always maintained and shared to help sick children.”
It’s a perspective shared by all involved.
“Radiothon complements what we do in this community and profiles a provincial partnership,” says Cindy Buizer, Executive Director, BRHC Foundation. “It is a privilege to be a part of such an inspiring day of sharing and caring. It provides another opportunity to fundraise/profile raise and is consistently very successful.”
Over the last decade, Radiothon has financed the purchase of over $73,000 of life-saving equipment. This includes Pediatric Resuscitation carts, O2 monitors, vital sign monitors, a phototherapy spotlight, an Otoacoustic emissions hearing screen and several sleep chairs, cribs and rocker chairs.
Funds raised are the result of an incredible day of sharing stories from children and their families who have faced tremendous obstacles.
“It’s such a privilege to hear about the children who have battled, persevered and grown into amazing boys and girls,” says Rozak. “Each family has an extraordinary story and there’s nothing more heartwarming than hearing how donations from the community have helped the hospitals.”
The Caring For Kids Radiothon could not happen without the dedication and energy of many people.
“The BRHC Foundation Board of Directors continually supports this event. They answer phones, etc. starting at 6am,” says Buizer. “There are so many stories from this area that resonate very well with residents. It’s amazing to see the wonderful support we get from this community each year!”
